Nowadays the so-called Super Female Singing Contest has been reduced to a commercial activity. Such a contest presents the world with too much temptation of fame and wealth. Of course, some of the contestants are really gifted and fond of singing, while most of them, I believe, join the contest just for the dream of becoming a shining star. In fact, these girls are misled by what they see about a celebrated star on the stage or on TV. That is, they do not realize that the star has gone through a lot of ups and downs to become what he or she is today.
The popular singing contest attracts only ordinary girls who feel like fish in the water. In addition to a handful of professional singers, the vast majority of the participants are girl students, girls failing to pass the college entrance exam, part-time working girls, or girls from rural villages. During the preliminary, one incident takes me by surprise. Namely, some of the girls are not qualified for singers. What matters here is not the quality of their voices but the way they behave. Some of them behave extremely poorly before the judges. For example, some show no sign of a moderate education, others just talk nonsense, and still others appear on the stage in their pajamas. What a saddening scene.
My point is that it is a good thing to see so many girls fall in love with singing. Their pursuit of music not only enriches their own life but also brings the delight and beauty of the young to us spectators. Besides, it is admirable that they have the courage to take part in such contests. After all, is there a young girl but has a colorful dream?
On the other hand, the way some of the girls conduct themselves is disappointing. Among others things, indecent clothing, unnatural expressions, sickening body language, and improper flatteries given to the judges are common. Where do these disgusting acts originate from? Are the girls to blame for their ignorance and being unladylike? From their behaviors, we can learn that these young girls have been deeply influenced by the social climate, especially mass media. There is no doubt that the social environment has a great impact on the young generation.
Then, what is our response in the presence of the abovementioned girls? Last year, some of the judges often cracked jokes to the girls instead of making suitable comments, other judges criticized the girls in a sarcastic way, and still other judges cast a scornful look at the girls. Such inappropriate actions as these show no respect at all for others as well as hurt their dignity. Actually, some of the judges are not worthy of the name, for they do not meet the standards whether they are judged from their clothing, wording, expertise, inner character, or outer behavior. While they are called teachers by the contestants, they frequently make fun of the latter, completely neglecting the roles they are playing.
I firmly believe that the organizer should lead the girls in the right direction, or guide them well, so that they will come to the understanding that the fruit of success is nourished by large amounts of sweat and that the elegant taste of art is acquired through constant hard work. In my opinion, the judges perform far better this year.
